Flamenco Caravan blends influences ranging from flamenco, jazz and rock, to elements of world, sacred and folk music. The band’s sound is characterised by tight guitar flourishes and smooth vocals, with strong, melodic lyricism and driving and grooving rhythms throughout. The music has been described as “world-class”, “beautiful and magical”, “moving”, “amazing in its variety” and “alternately soothing and stirring to the soul”. Flamenco Caravan’s distinctive sound reflects the diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds of the band’s members.
Flamenco Caravan came together as a songwriting/recording/performing group in 2003, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Flamenco Caravan’s core members are Esteban Figueroa on flamenco guitar, Susanna Di Giuseppe on keyboards and vocals, and Tony Agostino on flamenco and acoustic guitar. Often additional musicians on percussion, backing vocals, trumpet and other instruments add to the band’s sound.
Flamenco Caravan has created three albums since its inception–Love’s Philosophy (2004), Alchemy (2007) and Liberation (2012). Love’s Philosophy and Alchemy were both named Top Ten Album of the Year by CBC Radio’s Mark Rheume and “Mi Amor” (Alchemy) was nominated for a Music and Film in Motion award. Through the years, Flamenco Caravan has performed (and conducted songwriting workshops) at numerous music festivals such as the Ottawa Jazz Festival and the Millrace, Summerfolk and Live From the Rock music festivals.
Throughout the last two decades of performing at venues and events of many kinds, Flamenco Caravan has had the opportunity to open for artists such as Pink Martini, Colin James, America, Sweet, Paul Shaffer and Pat Benatar. The band has also been feature-interviewed on CBC Radio’s Fresh Air and recorded by Canada Live(CBC Radio). The band was delighted to have one of its songs, “Aires De Cuba”, featured in the motion picture The Face of Love starring Robin Williams/Annette Bening/Ed Harris.
Flamenco Caravan is currently working on a new album entitled Now, Wait…with an anticipated release date in 2025.
